America 's Situation today with Corona virus

Symptom: Covid 19

People may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. The most common symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
More rarely, the disease can be serious and even fatal. Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), may be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.
People may experience:
cough
fever
tiredness
difficulty breathing (severe cases)

Coronavirus Cases:

245,380

Total Coronavirus Cases in the United States

  • "Our country is in the midst of a great national trial, unlike any we have ever faced before. [...] We’re at war with a deadly virus. Success in this fight will require the full absolute measure of our collective strength, love, and devotion. It’s very important. Each of us has the power through our own choices and actions to save American lives and rescue the most vulnerable among us" President Trump said [video] [transcript]

  • "Following the guidelines for the next 30 days is a matter of life and death

  • “This is going to be one of the roughest 2 or 3 weeks we’ve ever had in our country [...] We’re going to lose thousands of people.”

  • Projections: 100,000 - 240,000 total deaths in the US from COVID-19 [video segment] (down from 1.5 - 2.2 million deaths without mitigation: social distancing, staying home, washing hands). But if guidelines are followed perfectly by everyone, then the numbers can be lower, or even significantly lower
  • Assuming full mitigation: peak of 2,214 daily deaths on April 15
  • Death of a 6-week-old newborn in Connecticut, in the Hartford area [source]
  • "This is a virus that attacks our most fragile without mercy. This also stresses the importance of staying home and limiting exposure to other peopleYour life and the lives of others could literally depend on it” Governor Lamont said [source]

NOTE: Washington State has not reported due to technical problems ("We are experiencing technical difficulties with our COVID-19 data repository") [source] [source] King County Public Health also affected, according to their website [source] Worldometer is updating 03/31 with partial data from the counties that have reported and will adjust Washington State numbers for 03/31 when the reporting will be complete Due to delayed and incomplete reporting from New York State, we had to make adjustments to yesterday's totals in order to maintain the correct attribution of historical figures. US figures for Sunday, March 29 could still be incomplete. Among the deaths: a 42-year-old woman in Arkansas with no pre-existing health condition (and who had never been hospitalized before, according to her sister) who felt "a little sick" on March 15 and thought it to be a cold or a sinus infection. After developing shortness of breath and cough that wouldn't go away, she was admitted to the hospital on March 24 and tested positive to Covid-19. She was put on a ventilator in ICU and, after 4 days (on Saturday, March 28), she died. [source] West Virginia had retracted its report of 1 death in the state. We have updated our data accordingly [source]

  • Everything we do now (procure ventilators etc) is in preparation for possible apex (when curve hits the highest point)
  • Apex in New York is estimated in 14-21 days from now
  • We'll keep COVID-19 patients separated from the other patients in hospitals
  • We can now test for antibodies to determine whether a person had COVID-19. This is a blood test
  • 172 new ICU admission in the last day, vs. 374  in the preceding day, may indicate a decline in the growth rate
  • 155,934 people tested in New York State
  • We need a faster testing process. Can't wait 5 days as it is now. Other countries now also have home tests. We should do the same
